Winner of Solo Original category 2016
Track Record, which offers young musicians across Kent the chance to be part of the Festival and win recording time in a local professional studio, came to a dramatic climax at the Ballroom on Sunday 16 October, in a live final that allowed contestants to show off their musical talent to an eager audience. There were a total of 10 acts in the live final, seven solo finalists and three groups. The standard of entries was incredibly high and judges Niamh Lynam-Cotter, The Festival’s Programme & Participation Manager, Emily Watts, founder of Beautiful Town Music, and James Wilford, managing director of Your Music School, had a difficult job picking the winners.
There were several chances to win the coveted prize, as the competition was split into three categories; Soloist covers, in which the judges were looking for the best performing talent, Soloist originals, which allowed contestants to show off their skills in song writing as well as performing talent. Finally, the groups category saw the judges looking for the slickest and most talented bands.
Each of the winners receive free rehearsal space from Your Music School, mentoring from each of the judges, a session in a recording studio to produce their own three track demo with Independent Music Productions followed by a session on Thanet’s AcademyFM (107.8), thanks to sponsorship from Canterbury’s Direction Law.
Monica Moffatt performed a 15 minute slot and blew the judges away with her distinctive vocals and lyrics.
