Topping Out at Kent College, Canterbury

The Great Hall, Kent College

The builders at Kent College have kept themselves busy since April 2018 when the work first started on the new Great Hall. Canterbury Festival was invited along to the topping out ceremony today to see the progress.

The cutting-edge facility for worship, concerts and the performing arts was granted planning permission in 2017 following a local consultation. The state-of-the-art 600 seat auditorium will provide space for the whole school to worship and will be used as a versatile and practical space for the school’s highly regarded drama and music departments and for the wider local community.

Kent College started a wonderful new partnership with Canterbury Festival in 2018, which saw them become a headline sponsor across multiple years. The parties also teamed up to present the Kent College Lecture as part of the Festival and welcomed award-winning architect and Kent College alumnus, Ptolemy Dean back to the city to discuss Canterbury’s post-war planning. With this year’s lecture selling out quickly, be sure to keep an eye out for next year’s speaker.

The Great Hall is due to complete in 2019 ready for Canterbury Festival 2019.
