When UK alt-country outfit ahab went on indefinite hiatus, songwriter Steven Llewellyn decided to form his own band with the help of originator Dave Burn and former bassist Graham Knight. They were later joined by drummer Steve Brookes (Danny & the Champions of the World) and former lead guitarist with Noah and the Whale, Fred Abbott. Orphan Colours was born!
This friendly Americana super group have some impressive credentials with Llewellyn and Burn having honed their songwriting craft with ahab – championed by BBC Radio 2’s ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris; not to mention Abbott’s Noah & The Whale world tours with appearances at The Royal Albert Hall, Coachella and Later with Jools Holland.
Their debut album All On Red has received widespread acclaim, combining punchy and dynamic songwriting with driving rock, rootsy
country and an edge of the 1970s Southern Californian sound.
‘All On Red is an album which pulsates with a fierce energy, the band firing on all cylinders’ (Americana-uk.com)
