Tea & Talks: Canterbury Cathedral – its conservation and birds

All are welcome to join the Festival Friends for two fund-raising talks exploring the work that goes into conserving Canterbury’s iconic landmark and the birdlife that makes it their home. The event will also include tea and cake prior to the talks.

A Talk by Heather Newton, Head of Conservation at Canterbury Cathedral.

Get an inside glimpse about the many and varied jobs and skills needed during the five-year programme to conserve and safeguard this precious and holy building, the Mother Church of England.  Heather Newton has worked at the Cathedral for over 30 years, first as a stone mason and conservator, and is now Head of Conservation overseeing this wonderful and formidable task.

The Birds of the Cathedral, 5pm 

A Talk by Andre Farrar, Canterbury RSPB

An exploration of the birds that make Canterbury Cathedral their home, including the famous Peregrine Falcons.
