Teach. Educate. Create Arts Facilitation

T.E.C returns for 2020 – it’s perfect for artists and creatives taking their first steps into community teaching and arts facilitation.

The Canterbury Festival team are engaged in projects year-round, from project managing public events to an extensive learning and participation programme working with communities across East Kent.

In January 2019 the Festival launched Teach. Educate. Create, an arts facilitation course designed to help artists, musicians and performers take their first steps into teaching. They are delighted to announce that T.E.C will return in January 2020.

The course offers the essential foundations of teaching in a community setting, as well as hands on experience and advice from professional practitioners.

Past participants have gone on to deliver workshops in schools, galleries, art centres and charities across Kent and beyond. The course is ideal for individuals who are passionate about their practice and inspiring creativity in others.

The course covers:

  • Safeguarding
  • Risk Assessments
  • Differentiation
  • Working with diverse groups
  • Planning
  • Hands on learning

After two days of practical training, participants will deliver a tailor-made workshop to clients of Catching Lives Homeless Shelter.

Last year’s course was fully booked and received some fantastic feedback:

‘I had been providing workshops in the community for several years in a freelance capacity. The TEC course was invaluable in that it provided me with a network of other facilitators, introduced me to organisations leading to exciting projects, gave me confidence in my work, and I have been booked up regularly since.’ Steph Avery Reynolds (Combined Arts Facilitator)

‘I found the experience extremely valuable and helped me make some great connections with Canterbury Festival and Local Artists. I felt the course suited most people, even with us being in different practices, and gave me lots more knowledge in the area.’ Harriet Morgan (Visual Artist)

This course is endorsed by Canterbury Christchurch University.

A subsidised rate is available for East Kent participants.
