Music from our friends across Canterbury

As well as running our own events year-round and throughout the two weeks of Canterbury Festival, we are now thrilled to help support our friends across the city with concerts, talks and more. There’s lots coming up over the next three months so don’t miss out – you can find out more about each event below or head over to our what’s on page for a calendar of events.

Saturday 18 March sees the return of the Canterbury Choral Society to the Cathedral who, together with the Hanover Band, will perform Bach’s magnificent St John Passion. A distinguished group of soloists will combine with the Canterbury Choral Society’s Chorus and Youth Choir in this sacred masterpiece.

Why not celebrate Mothers’ Day with the Festival Chamber Orchestra in an uplifting concert in the superb surroundings of the Cathedral Lodge’s Clagett Hall. The varied programme will include music by Mozart, Gluck and Marcello (Sunday 19 March).

Join the Friends of Canterbury Cathedral for a joyous celebration of our new King’s Coronation in the Cathedral on Friday 5 May. Expect much waving of flags, music from the classics and some fine contemporary pieces in a concert for all ages.

Sunday 4 June brings the Festival Chamber Orchestra, directed by John Harle, to Kent College’s excellent Great Hall with music from Bach to Bird. Expect to hear some of Charlie Parker’s wonderful string arrangements as well as work by J.S. Bach.

Canterbury Choral Society’s Summer Concert in the Cathedral is on Saturday 17 June. Joined by the London Mozart Players, the Society will perform Brahms’ Requiem. The programme will also include Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture.
